This week Durango celebrates the one-of-a-kind winter celebration: Snowdown! This week-long festival cures winter blues and engages the whole community in fun and adventurous activities, games, tournaments, costumes, and more. This year’s theme is A Rockin’ Snowdown. There are family events, adult events, and even kid and teen events.
The week features everything from sports tournaments to trivia, fashion shows to arm wrestling. Local restaurants, bars, and businesses host these events, and there is something for everybody.
One of the highlights of the week is the Snowdown Light Parade. Friday evening at dusk, Main Avenue from College Drive to 12th St. will be filled with lit-up rock and roll floats. This is Durango’s only night parade, and it’s a blast to bundle up and watch the floats and entertainment.
The Durango Team will be sponsoring the Snowdown Bed Race, held right before the light parade at 4 pm between 7th and 8th on Main. This event takes teams of 5: 4 people to carry the bed and 1 riding on the bed. Racing will be with teams side by side, going both directions on the street. Teams wear Snowdown onesies, and the person on the bed switches onesies with one of the runners. It’s an entertaining race and we are so excited to sponsor it and raise money for the Durango 100 Club! Come out and cheer the teams on!
During the week, Durango has an energy and excitement as the entire town celebrates Snowdown. Take a look at the website for schedule information, and Happy Snowdown! https://www.snowdown.org/
