Durango is back in action and this coming month’s events are sure to increase the community’s fun levels. From live music to marathons to chainsaw carving competitions, here are some “can’t miss” August events:

Animas City Theater is a hometown venue for music and movies. Three amazing bands will take the stage featuring groovy, reggae, and electronic bass music. While there is some seating available, the floor is made for dancing! August 3rd will kick off the month with the band MarchFourth followed by Artikal Sound System & Sensi Trails on the 8th and finally Homemade Spaceship, Kruza Kid feat. Melissa Joy, and the Dancing Arrows on the 27th. Prices vary per show so check out Animas City Theater’s website for more information: https://animascitytheatre.com/ .

Purgatory Resort is not just a winter destination. Their summer alpine coaster, inferno rollercoaster, and many other activities draw their own crowd. This month they are hosting a few more events that are sure to be crowd pleasers. Starting off the month is a combination of the Carve Wars and Trail Part Enduro Fest on August 1st. Carve Wars is a chainsaw carving competition that’s family friendly and free! With live demonstrations from renowned artists and a live auction, you won’t want to miss out on this high-octane event at the lodge. On the mountain, mountain bikers will be shredding the downhill course. Both of these events are high energy and ready for your amusement! Check out Purgatory’s website for more details: https://www.purgatoryresort.com/events/

Rounding out the month, Ska Brewing will host the Thirsty 13 Half Marathon. With two different potential courses, downhill or fairly flat, the runners will enjoy either course and end up at the brewery. The race starts at 8 am with a 3 hour and 15 minute time limit in hopes to beat the rain. The after party continues downtown in Buckley Park with the San Juan Brewfest. 27 different breweries including Durango’s own 5 and many from nearby (Moab, Telluride, Bayfield, Mancos, etc.), will all pitch together for an awesome two-day event. With three live bands and a bottomless souvenir tasting glass, this is sure to be one not to forget.
