Christmas and New Year’s are next week! Durango is in full holiday swing with the tree lit up in Buckley Park, snow covered trees, and many celebratory events. Here are a few things to do in Durango during Christmas and New Year’s.
Artsy Craft Studio, a local art studio is hosting a variety of classes for everyone from grade school, to teens, and adult classes. With the season of giving and Christmas decorations, the classes include holly wreaths, no-sew tree skirts, and snowman ornaments! For some already assembled handmade gifts, visit the Durango Arts Center Gift Gallery. This gallery will be open until January 12th from 12 – 6 pm Tuesday through Saturday but closed from December 24th – January 3rd for the holidays.
The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad’s Polar Express will continue to run to the North Pole until January 1st. Offering a classic tale come to life, enjoy a train ride full of songs, hot chocolate, and cookies to the North Pole where you’ll meet Santa! You can also meet Mr. and Mrs. Claus at Purgatory Resort on December 22nd from 2-3:30 pm.
New Year’s Eve will kick off with dinner at Primi Pasta & Wine Bar for an elevated dining experience. Then, head up to Purgatory Resort at 6 for the infamous torch light parade and fireworks show. We’ll be welcoming a new business, Eso Terra Ciderworks, New Year’s Eve from 7pm – 12am on Main Street. Fathers and Daughters Pizza is hosting a Black Tie Affair from 9:30 pm – 1 am with DJ Matteo’s New Year’s Eve Disco Party at the Animas City Theater from 9:30 pm – 12:30 am. Finally, Carver’s Brewing is hosting their annual New Year’s Eve East Coast Toast at 10 pm with a complimentary glass of champagne.
