Mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and trail running are all common outdoor activities in Durango, and we have a plethora of amazing trails and options for these sports. One of our less-common features happens to lie on the outskirts of town, Dalla Mountain Park.
The city bought the 176 acres from Joe Dalla in 2005, and it became known as Dalla Mountain Park, and preserved as open space. Bureau of Land Management land borders two sides of the park and the city of Durango lies on the third side. Large boulders dot the landscape, making this a fantastic place to explore (especially for climbing)!
Dalla Mountain Park is located up 25th Street, then the road turns to Junction Street. It’s so close to town that it makes an afternoon, early morning, or evening doable for an outdoor adventure.
Some of the funds for the development of Dalla Mountain Park came from Great Outdoors Colorado, which utilizes Colorado Lottery funds to “help preserve and enhance the state’s parks, trails, wildlife, rivers, and open spaces (https://goco.org/about-us).” This source of funds has also been used for many of Durango’s other trail systems and projects. At The Durango Team, we all have a love for the outdoors and adventures, and we are grateful to live in a community that offers such a variety of places to explore and utilize.
