It’s almost the Fourth of July, and Durango puts on a fabulous celebration. The weather is shaping up to be gorgeous, making Durango the best place to spend the holiday!
Several events are located at Rotary Park. In the morning, there’s an All-American Breakfast, a Freedom 5K, and even a free concert in the park. Start the morning with great food and exercise, followed by entertainment. Between the musical sets, FLC American Voices will be reading historical documents on what it means to be an American Patriot.
Buckley Park is the home for an Independence Day Party in the afternoon, complete with Ska and Steamworks beer, and food from The Durango Elks Lodge. There will be music and events for the whole family. This is the perfect spot for lunch and afternoon activities.
Throughout the day, Mild to Wild will be conducting a river parade on the Lower Animas River, and there are five time slots from which to choose. They are encouraging rafters to dress up in Fourth of July attire!
Thursday evening, the Stars and Stripes Parade will be downtown Durango at 6 pm on Main Avenue (from College Drive to 13th Street), followed by the Independence Day Dance in the Transit Parking Lot. This is one tradition you won’t want to miss. This year there will be live music by The High Rollers, food, and kids’ activities. This is also a great spot to view the fireworks show, although several places downtown offer excellent viewing.
