Each week, we feature an event, festival, or local company that contributes to Durango’s unique culture and lifestyle. There’s always somewhere local to visit or a fun event occurring. This week, we want to highlight a couple interesting events going on in Durango.
This week, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will be here on March 16 and 17. These fantastic films will showcase mountain sports, culture, and environmental films. They will be shown at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall. Here’s the link for more information: https://durangoconcerts.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=1058593
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will feature The Shamrock Express to Cascade Canyon this Saturday. Irish Beer and Drink specials will be available for purchase, and there will be music by the Kitchen Jam Band both on the platform in front of the Depot as well as on board. There will be a special Irish menu, and passengers are encouraged to wear green or dress in costumes. This is a fun and eventful way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, and a perfect time to enjoy the beautiful views to Cascade.
Saturday also marks the Cardboard Derby at Purgatory Resort. Derby racers are built out of cardboard, duct tape, string, twine, and paint only, then teams compete on the tubing hill through a course. It’s a creative and fun day, and there are several criteria for prizes. Take a look at the link for details and pictures: https://www.purgatoryresort.com/events/cardboard-derby/?rec=1521280800
