This week, Durango will once again host the Durango Independent Film Festival. Since 2001, Durango has had a film festival, and the official Durango Independent Film Festival has been active since 2006. The organization is now officially Durango Film, as other events and activities throughout the year occur.
The festival screens shows at the Gaslight Theatre and Animas City Theatre. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Durango Stadium 9 theatre will be showing films. A wide variety of categories will be represented. These include: Adventure Sports, Documentaries, Features, Family, Native American, and Shorts Programs.
In addition to film screenings, the festival includes workshops and panels. This is a great resource for anyone considering film making. These panels include topics such as: writers block and creating a film story, casting and auditions, and what it takes to become a filmmaker at the Durango Film Festival. These panels are free to the public and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The festival includes events at various restaurants and Sorrel Sky Gallery in town. Some are open to the public; others require passes. Multiple pass levels and ticketing options are available. Check out the website for pass information at www.durangofilm.org.
This sounds like a great week of entertainment, events, and social gatherings. We hope you take the time to enjoy some of the fantastic films that will be displayed, and enjoy the film festival!
