Durango’s history and location lend to the modern mountain and southwest influences in art and culture. These shine through in many different forms, from pottery, jewelry, and paintings to music, glass work, and photography.
With over 30 local galleries showcasing hundreds of artists, you can find a wonderful mix of mediums and styles. There are one-of-a-kind handmade pieces to decorate your home or wear every day. The jewelry ranges from bold silver and turquoise pieces to minimalistic geometric ones. Paintings and photography capture everything from architecture to the amazing animals and landscapes we have in our area. Almost all artforms are represented and many focus on and are inspired from the local area, materials, and culture.
Twice a year, Durango hosts the Gallery Walk downtown on Main Street where galleries hold exhibitions, special guests, and have their pieces on display and for purchase. It’s a very popular event with music, drinks and appetizers, and plenty of socializing.
