Explore Mesa Verde

When was the last time you visited Mesa Verde? Most Durango residents (and even many visitors to the area) have visited Mesa Verde and seen the “main” cliff dwellings. However, there is so much more to see and do at the National Park, and now is the perfect time to take advantage of some of the less-popular attractions.

While many of the cliff dwellings are closed, there are several that are open. Far View Sites Complex, Mesa Top Loop Road, Cliff Palace/Balcony House Loop Drive, and the Spruce Tree Overlook are all open. This is a great way to see some of the sights as well enjoy a beautiful scenic drive.

Hiking at Mesa Verde is a fun and unique way to explore the area. The Far View Sites, Upper Petroglyph Point Trail, and Soda Canyon Overlook Trail are all open as of now. Morefield Campground offers a way to stay overnight at the Park, as does the Far View Lodge. Even if you’re local, the trip to Mesa Verde offers a fun and short staycation getaway.

We continue to feature ways to creatively enjoy our local area, and we are fortunate to live in an area with so much outdoor space, history, and culture!
