Are you still looking for family-friendly ways to celebrate the holidays in Durango? There are so many ways our town makes this time of the year festive, and this weekend offers more events in town.
The Nutcracker Ballet returns to Durango this year, once again performed by the State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara. The San Juan Symphony will perform at the ballet, and performances will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (December 13-15) at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall. This is a special way to enjoy the music and art of the season.
This weekend is the last weekend to enjoy the Christmas Tree Train. Passengers ride the train to Cascade Canyon, then cut their own trees down in the San Juan National Forest! This is such a great way to decorate your home, and it also aids the forest by cutting trees in an area that needs hazardous fuel reduction. Permits are required to cut trees, and the train provides saws for use. Each family is allowed to cut a tree up to 20 feet tall. Take a look at the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train website for more information: https://www.durangotrain.com/events/christmas-tree-train#.Xe61mpNKhmA
The Durango Holiday Market will be held at the La Plata County Fairgrounds inside the Exhibit Hall on Saturday, December 14 from 9 am to 2 pm. There will be handmade gift ideas as well as cheeses, meats, vegetables, and more.
There are so many local ways to enjoy the season, shop for gifts, and bring beautiful holiday decorations into your homes. We hope you enjoy all Durango has to offer!
