Happy Fourth of July! If you’re looking for celebratory and patriotic ways to usher in this holiday, we have some local ideas for you. Even though Durango won’t host a fireworks show this year due to dry conditions, there are still several activities in and around town.

There will be an all-American breakfast at Rotary Park, followed by the Freedom 5K. Breakfast starts at 7:30, and the run starts at 9 am, and is for all ages!

After the run, there will be readings of “American Voices: What it Means to be an American,” followed by a free concert. There will also be a BBQ picnic at Rotary Park from 11-1. This park’s location in Durango is the perfect spot to enjoy both history and American culture, as well as our natural beauty.

Buckley Park will also have an Independence Day party from 12-4:30, hosted by Building Homes for Heroes and the City of Durango. Ska and Steamworks Beer and food from Durango Elks Lodge will be available, and there will be live music and kids’ activities.

In the evening, the Stars and Stripes Parade will be on Main Avenue (5 pm), then a free street dance with live music will be at the Transit Center parking lot at 250 W 8th Street. Take a look at the website for more information:

Silverton also hosts several activities for the holiday. They have a 2K, 5K, and 10K Fun Run, 4th of July Parade, Carnival in the Park, Duck Derby, and Greene Street 4th of July Block Party. Take a look at the website for more information:

There is no shortage of events around Durango, and we hope you take the opportunity to enjoy one of our local celebrations. From The Durango Team to you, we wish you a Happy Fourth of July!
