This Friday evening, February 28, Mesa Verde will host the 2020 Winterfest! This is an exciting opportunity to enjoy exploring Mesa Verde in the winter evening hours. Visitors have the ability to see a handful of places in the park, including cross country skiing Meadow Bliss Trail or Snowshoeing the Cottontail Loop trail and exploring the Morefield Campground. The park will have a limited number of snowshoes to check out for adults and children during the event. There will be hot chocolate and a warm fire, as well as the opportunity to chat with a ranger and a telescope to view the stars!
The event will be held from 6-9 pm, and if there’s not enough snow visitors are encouraged to hike the trails. Parking will be at Morefield Village parking lot, located four miles from the entrance to the park.
Most of the time visitors sightsee at Mesa Verde in the warm summer; this is such a unique way to appreciate the National Park, and the natural beauty as well as the rich history within. The Ancestral Pueblo people dwelled in the park’s area for several years; there are now 600 cliff dwellings within the park, as well as 5,000 archaeological sites. It’s a magnificent local place, and the 2020 Winterfest! Is a fun and unique way to explore Mesa Verde.
