October is a wonderful month in Durango as the leaves are changing colors and the air is crisp yet not too cold! With Halloween at the end of the month, there are fun celebrations as well as “can’t miss” October events leading up to it.
October 8th is the 6th annual Local First’s Harvest Dinner. A true indulgence, this five-course meal is meticulously prepared with ingredients from our region complimented by hand-crafted beverages and wines. An all-inclusive experience, the proceeds benefit local businesses such as farms, restaurants, nonprofits, and more. Although this year is already sold out, you can join the waitlist and look forward to next year’s one-of-a-kind dining ordeal here: https://local-first.org/harvestdinner/
The Downtown Balloon Glow is a fan favorite as many hot air balloons light up the autumn air in the 500th block of Main Avenue. Right in front of the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, on October 14th, at 6pm when it starts to get dark, the balloons will begin to inflate. It’s a truly magical sight but is weather dependent, so keep updated on their website here: https://local-first.org/harvestdinner/
The Durango Arts Center has a full event calendar itself with classes for all ages and mediums as well as live performances. Cindy & Mary Present a Night of Improv and 10-minutes Play Festival leading up to the cult classic Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show. Opening night on October 28th, this infamous musical will be enjoyed by plenty getting into the Halloween Spirit!
Durango always has a wonderful array of fall events, and these are just the tip of the iceberg! Please let us know if you have any questions regarding these or any other events.
