Yee Haw! It’s the 31st Annual Durango Cowboy Poetry gathering this week (October 3-7). As usual, it’ll be a time for poets and musicians to share their talent and Cowboy culture with Durango. The Strater Hotel is the headquarters for the duration of the event, and several of the shows will be held there.
Events start on Thursday with a Cowboy Theatre show, as well as a performance by Trinity Seely and her band. Later evening there will be a jam session at the Wild Horse Saloon. Friday is a full day—poets will perform throughout the community, then there will also be a Cowboy Poet train ride as well as a trail ride! The evening includes receptions/events at local galleries and evening performances. Later in the evening the Wild Horse Saloon hosts a country western dance. Saturday the events continue. A chuck wagon breakfast will be held at the corner of 5th and Main. The largest motorless parade in Colorado will start at the train depot and head down Main, and the afternoon is filled with more shows, including a youth show. Sunday concludes the events with a special morning of poetry and music for “A Cowboy and His Creator” followed by Sunday Brunch.
The weekend is full of unique events and performances, and we love that Durango hosts the Cowboy Poetry gathering every year. It’s the perfect fall celebration. Take a look at the website for more information: http://www.durangocowboygathering.org/main.php
