August is a hot month not only for our weather but also can’t-miss events! From a wide variety of live music at venues like Lola’s Place, James Ranch, Durango Hot Springs, and Three Springs, there are also Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train rides, improv classes, and more you won’t want to miss out on.
La Plata County Fair
This four day long event continues 75 years of traditions from 4-H projects to fair royalty. Starting on Wednesday, August 9th, the True West Roundup Rodeo kicks off the events followed by exhibits open to the public on August 10th. August 11th events include pee wee showmanship, dairy cattle, and a special concert featuring the Bellamy Brothers. Saturday, August 12th is a full line up with a dog show, rooster crowing, community BBQ cook off, the demolition derby, and fair royalty crowning, and a family dance. There will be delicious food, a plethora of animals, and fun times for the whole family.
San Juan Brewfest
Two days of unlimited beer, hard cider, live music, and good company that benefits the United Way of Southwest Colorado? Where do I get tickets? August 25th & 26th are the days of this 21+ event, hosting 33 vendors with 100+ beers and ciders. A rain or shine event, there will be food for purchase and live music presented by the Animas City Theater. There are also special designated driver tickets available as the event is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all.
Thirsty 13 Half Marathon
A primarily downhill course, this 13 mile race offers amazing views from beginning to end…and the finish line is a brewery! The race begins at 8 am on August 26th and the after party continues into the afternoon at Ska Brewing including food from Nini’s Taqueria. The Thirsty 13 Half Marathon partners with the San Juan Brewfest and fundraising efforts benefit the United Way of Southwest Colorado this year. You can add on Brewfest tickets to your race payment.
Four Corners Motorcycle Rally
Celebrating their 30th Anniversary, August 31st begins the five day motorcycle rally in Durango, CO. The schedule includes the Ives Brothers Wall of Death, Southern Ute Indian Tribe Ceremony, Slippin' Sideways Flat Track Races, V-Twin Visionary Performance Bike Show, the Brawl Stunt Competition, T.T. Races & Mini Bike World Championship, $25,000 Poker Run, live music, giveaways, demos, and much more! Durango provides a great starting and ending point to ride on the infamous Million Dollar Highway north to Silverton and Ouray, Colorado as well.
