August in Southwest Colorado brings many popular annual events including the San Juan Brewfest and the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally. In addition to these Durango staples, there are many more performances, competitions, and weekend markets to enjoy. Here are a few of our top picks for next month.
Meadow Market Brunch & Bazaar
Located in Edgemont Meadows, the Meadow Market is a locally owned and operated market and restaurant with a wonderful selection of soups, sandwiches, pastries, and other homemade goodies that can be paired with coffee and other beverages. Accompanying the kitchen’s offerings, an array of at-home staples (think milk, eggs, pasta, and chips) and locally made jewelry, cards, and other gifts are available. On August 3rd from 10 am - 1 pm, there will be a collection of local artists and their handmade items for sale. The mixture of brunch and artisan pottery, paintings, and more is the perfect Sunday!
La Plata County Fair
This annual event is a week-long culmination of western heritage and fun community events. Beginning on August 2nd, the schedule includes 4-H projects shows, royalty interviews & crowning, a special rodeo, talent show, live concert, cowboy church, and demolition derby. Many of the events are free and open to the community to view with tickets on sale for the rodeo, concert, and demo derby.
The Style Gathering - A Retail Warehouse Sale
The second annual gathering will take place on August 23 and offers amazing deals from Durango and the surrounding area’s local boutiques. For one day only, the La Plata County Fairgrounds will host over a dozen local shops as well as food and drink vendors. This will be a fun outing with great deals from 9 am - 3 pm.
