What Does the Durango Public Library Offer?
Although you do not need a library card to enjoy the library, anyone who lives in or owns property in La Plata County can apply for a Durango Public Library card, allowing them to borrow books, digital materials, use public computers, and more. Courtesy cards are also available to non-residents staying in the area for an extended time.
The library’s collection includes fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, books in Spanish, book club kits, encyclopedias, magazines, board games, State Park backpacks, birding kits, and more. Additional services include scanning, copying, faxing, audiobooks, and DVDs. There is a dedicated children’s section featuring popular books, kid-friendly computers, and a play area. Throughout the year, the library hosts events such as Crafternoons for adults and storytime for toddlers. Conference rooms are available for businesses to rent.
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library - or FRIENDS - is a non-profit board that funds library programs. Individual, family, and business memberships are available and support programming for adults, teens, and children. The annual Literacy Festival and Lela’s Bookstore (located in the library lobby, offering great books at great prices!) directly support the Durango Public Library.
Common Grounds Cafe
A collaboration between the Durango Public Library, Durango 9R, and other local businesses, the Common Grounds Cafe is located inside the library. Student staff serve coffee, pastries, and other snacks, gaining hands-on experience in customer service, accounting, inventory, and maintenance with guidance from local professionals.
