Spring is just around the corner and Durango is hosting a great number of events from board game tournaments to live music and film festivals. Here are a few upcoming community activities to enjoy.
Starting February 28th and running through March 3rd, the Durango Independent Film Festival is celebrating their 19th anniversary. This week-long event brings independent local and global filmmaker’s work of all genres to the big screen. Panels, workshops, coffee and networking events, and nightly parties create a full week. There are different pass options allowing you to enjoy over 80 films submitted and handpicked to be played at the Durango Arts Center or Gaslight Twin Cinema - Allen Theatres.
The Subterrain is a newer addition to Durango’s nightlife and venue lineup. The space is an ever evolving art show with an in house bar serving wine, sake, cider, and interesting cocktails. The space is also used for music and comedy shows and can be rented for private parties. This month, they are hosting a Hawaiian Luau Party (with group hulu dance lessons!) on March 2nd, Tom Wards Downfall - an irish jam session on March 15th for St. Patrick’s Day, and live music by The Crooked Rugs, Ora, Desiderata on the 16th.
Also on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, the Durango & Silverton Railroad presents the Shamrock Express. This train ride will feature Kitchen Jam Band, a local Celtic band, a special selection of Guinness beer, and a special corned beef lunch option. The journey from the Durango depot to Cascade Canyon is sure to be a fun celebration.
