November 2023 Events

In preparation for winter and the holiday season, November is full of family fun throughout town!

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Hesperus Ski Patrol Ski Swap. On Saturday, November 4th, from 8 am - 4pm, there will be over 10,000 items of ski, snowboard, and winter gear to peruse at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Individuals and local vendors can enter new or used gear in to the sale. The proceeds from this event go towards patrol equipment including medical supplies and uniforms, training, and facility maintenance and upgrades.

The Train Pull is an extraordinary event put on by Colorado Special Olympics. Coming to Durango on November 4th at 11:30am, teams of 10 will pull the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad diesel train 15 feet on the track. Teams compete for the fastest time, costume, and fundraising efforts, and are rewarded with trophies and bragging rights. Funds from this event support the 20,000 athletes that are part of the Colorado Special Olympics through trainings, competitions, and leadership development programs.

Hosted by San Juan Citizens Alliance, the Backcountry Film Festival is coming to the Durango Arts Center on November 16th with the screening at 5:30pm. This event celebrates the connection between us and backcountry winters. Proceeds from the screening stay in the community and benefit winter recreation as well as conservation, awareness, and education programs.

As the giving month, we love supporting local events like these that give back to the community! Find out about more events here and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions about Durango and our local events.
