Fall in Durango is filled with live music, art classes, and more community events to ease you into the cooler weather. Here are three “can’t miss” things to do next month.
Fall Blaze
At 8am on Saturday, October 7th will start another annual Fall Blaze Bicycle Celebration. There are four courses - a 37 mile or 75 mile classic road ride as well as a 39 or 79 miles gravel track. With aid stations along the way, all of these rides begin and end at Fort Lewis College with an after party by the clock tower. Registration and fundraising efforts go towards the Dave Hagen Excellence Fund which supports FLC cycling.
Apple Days Festival
The Good Food Collective is hosting the 15th Annual Apple Days Festival on October 7th from 9 am - 12 pm at the Durango Farmers Market. This event includes apple treats of all kinds, a pie-eating contest, and more family fun! An after party continues at Eso Terra Ciderworks from 6 - 8 pm. The community apple harvests go from September 30th - October 5th during which close to 4,600 pounds of apples are picked in preparation for the festival.
Animas Valley Balloon Rally
This colorful tradition is a fall classic, as a couple dozen hot air balloons take to the skies for the Animas Valley Balloon Rally. Surrounded by the red cliffs, these huge balloons are piloted in the mass ascension on October 21th and 22nd at 8 am. This is free to watch and free tethered balloon rides are offered those mornings as well. The balloon glow at dusk will be featured downtown on the 20th and 21st between 6 - 8 pm. The fiery glow that inflates and illuminates the patterned balloons becomes enchanting.
Enjoy the beginning of the autumn season in Durango with these and many other events. Please let us know how we can assist you whether that be enjoying the area or finding a new home.
