The leaves are changing color, the weather is changing in temperature, but Durango is not changing the huge amount of community events to attend next month! With live music almost every night, annual favorites, and seasonal festivities galore, below are a few of our favorite October events.
Mountain and Valley Fiber Arts Festival
Presented by the Mountain and Valley Wool Association, the Mountain and Valley Fiber Arts Festival will be held at the La Plata County Fairgrounds October 3rd and 4th. This festival was originally established in 1983 in Taos, NM, brings regional animal and other natural fibers to be judged by a panel, finished products, yarn, workshops, demonstrations, and more. Free admission allows the public to enjoy the offerings with lots of opportunities to support the regional artisans!
Durango Marathon
October 11th marks the first Durango Marathon Weekend with races and finish line celebrations benefitting the Durango Education Foundation. A full marathon, half marathon, and 5k course are all open for registration with start and finish lines at Santa Rita Park. Each course highlights the Animas River Trail, fall colors, and more stunning Durango scenery. Aid stations, professional chip timing, finisher medals, and shirts are included for all registered participants.
Hoedown at the Mancos Opera House
A fall celebration that benefits two great local causes: the Montezuma School to Farm Project and the Montelores County Fund from the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado, the Hoedown is a 21+ event filled with music and western fun. This year, the Afrobeatniks will take the stage on October 17th at the Mancos Opera House with a live pie auction, bar, food trucks, and “best dressed western” costume contest.
