Nestled in the southern reaches of the Rocky Mountains, Durango, CO is known for its beautiful landscapes and natural resources. Camping, whether in a tent or RV, is a common way for visitors and locals alike to enjoy the area. Whether the final destination, or just a stop along the route, Durango offers a wide variety of RV parks to choose from.
JW Durango Riverside Resort
Located in the Animas Valley along the Animas River, the JW Durango Riverside Resort features over 100 total ways to stay including RV sites, tent sites, and cabins. Staying here includes access to their amenities such as the heated pool, onsite cafe, playground, community firepit, store, dogs parks, and monthly activities. Nearly equidistant between downtown Durango and Purgatory Resort, there is plenty to enjoy from this basecamp.
Alpen Rose RV Park
One of the only campgrounds open year round, the Alpen Rose RV Park features easy access and big views of Missionary Ridge in the Animas Valley. Five miles north of downtown, there are 100 full hookup RV sites with grassy “yards” and mature trees for shade. Their amenities include seasonal pool, laundry room, restrooms with showers, pickleball court, and dog wash.
Westerly RV Park
Across the street from the Durango Hot Springs, the Westerly RV Park is surrounded by local amenities and wonderful vistas. The campgrounds provide more than 20 RV sites including pull in, back in, and pull through sites. Minutes north from downtown, this is a wonderful place to set up camp while visiting Durango.
United Campground Durango
The United Campground Durango is the RV park closest to town, just on the northern edge of Durango city limits. Over 100 full hookup sites plus 90+ tent sites to choose from, enjoy the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad travelling through the park with the red cliffs in the background. Additional things to enjoy here are the heated pool, general store, Trolley access, and the Animas River & River Trail.
HTR Durango
West of Durango, along Lightner Creek, HTR Durango - used to be Lightner Creek Campground - offers a variety of full hookup RV sites, tent sites, water & electric sites, and cabins. Their creekside location in addition to bathhouses, camp store, outdoor games, seasonal pool, and playground make it so you don’t have to leave the park. However, it’s located just six miles from downtown with restaurants, trails, gas stations, and more even closer.
Durango Ranch RV Resort
South of Durango, the Durango Ranch RV Resort provides a different scenic outlook of the La Platas & San Juans. 19 full hookup sites plus BBQ area, jacuzzi, new bathhouse facilities, fenced dog park, and onsite storage make this a great place to camp in Southwest Colorado.
