School is back in session, the days are cooler, and the days shorter; however, the Durango area events are not slowing down. Take a look at some of the upcoming events in September.
Durango Derby MTB Race
Sunday, September 1st will be an epic mountain bike day in Durango featuring four stages over 31 miles of Durango single track trails. For the second year, professional riders will compete solo for their category’s first place while two and four person relay teams are also competing in separate categories. Spectators are welcome to cheer on riders at start and finish lines across town with Durango Mesa Park being the main venue. The race will begin at 8 am with a 12 pm post race celebration followed by a Durango Devo Jr Fun Race at 2 pm and finally the afterparty, awards, and podiums with live music at Lola’s Place from 5 - 9 pm.
Men In Heels
Back for the 5th year, Men in Heels is a familiar favorite that benefits the Women’s Resource Center. Every year, local businesses put together teams of four men who dress up, duck tape high heels to their feet, and race! Awards are given for best time, best costumes, and most money raised. The event promotes the Women’s Resource Center and provides funds for their self-sufficiency programs. The races will begin at 5:30 pm at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.
Whole Expo Durango
Open on Saturday & Sunday, September 28 & 29 from 10 am - 5 pm at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, the Whole Expo will showcase holistic and ecological products and workshops. For a $5 admission fee (under 12 years old are free), you can access all basic seminars and workshops from over 50 businesses. Booths range from crystals, chiropractors, and cryotherapy to essential oil, astrology, and beyond all centered around healthy holistic living with an ecological awareness.
