History
In 1985, John Wells and Jim Wotkyns - two college friends - founded The Wells Group Real Estate Brokerage in Durango, CO. Originally located at the corner of 9th and Main Street in historic downtown Durango, the company started with a small team of Realtors® and staff. Since the beginning, it’s been an independent and locally owned business. Community has always been at the heart of our team, because it’s what makes Durango and Southwest Colorado such a special place to live.
Over the last four decades, the company has evolved, grown to 40+ full-time brokers, and relocated to our current flagship office, with satellite offices in Bayfield, CO and Dolores, CO. However, our clients and community have always remained the most important part of our jobs. Through recessions, a pandemic, and many other external changes, we’re honored to still be true to the vision we set out with.
Community Celebration
To celebrate our clients, community, and legacy, The Wells Group is hosting a celebration in Buckley Park this Friday, June 20, 2025. From 4 - 8pm there will be live music (The Bulldoggers and Ralph Dinosaur), food, drinks, and activities for kids. This free event will benefit Team Up (formerly United Way) and the Boys & Girls Club - two organizations that make a lasting difference!
