Chapman Hill is part of the City of Durango Parks & Recreation facilities and available to visitors and locals alike. From rollerblading to ice skating, and hiking to skiing, this in town and easy to access location has fun for everyone.
Ice Skating
The ice rink is very popular in the winter time, offering both hockey and figure skating. As the only ice skating rink in Durango, Chapman Hill is home to the Durango Area Youth Hockey Association, Fort Lewis College Club Hockey Team, figure skating lessons, and an adult hockey league.
The rink provides a weekly schedule with times dedicated to open skate, disco nights, drop in hockey, and private reservations. Hockey and figure skate rentals are available on site. Bleachers are available inside the rink for family and fans to enjoy local games and tournaments.
Skiing
A two rope tow ski hill offers 500 vertical feet of terrain. There is a groomed run, expert terrain, and park features available to ski or snowboard and there are also lessons available. Affordable daily tickets, punch passes, or season passes grant access to this hill including some night hours, perfect for after work or school! The Durango Ski Team also trains at this facility.
Sledding
On the north side of the property, a smaller hill provides the ideal sledding area. It is free to use, just need to bring your own sled!
Roller Blading
In the summer, the ice is gone and roller skating takes over, with daily entry or punch passes. Rollerblade rentals are available on site with rink times scheduled for public use. Be sure to catch a Durango Roller Derby match!
Hiking and Biking
There is a trail system behind Chapman Hill which links to Lion’s Den and is accessible for hiking and mountain biking. The trail connects Florida Road and Rim Drive and is perfect for commuting from Fort Lewis College and nearby neighborhoods to downtown Durango and vice versa. Once at the top of the trail, the views cannot be beat! Additionally, the Animas River Trail can be accessed from right across the street.
Facility
The Chapman Hill facilities are available to rent for uses such as birthday parties, club meetings, banquets, reunions, parties, and more. There is a spacious outdoor pavilion area, indoor area with a fireplace, as well as rink rental availability.
Many local events are also hosted in this community centric space including the Durango Bike Swap, the Iron Horse, and more throughout the year.
