Durango La Plata County Airport (DRO) hosts American Airlines and United Airlines flights with service to Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, and Houston, TX (seasonally). Frontier Airlines has occasionally provided direct flights to Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), and Denver Intl. Airport (DIA) and Delta previously offered nonstop flights to Salt Lake City Intl (SLC). Airport and Los Angeles Intl. Airport (LAX). Even without Frontier and Delta offering year-round flights, Denver and Dallas Fort Worth offer hundreds of connections to get you to your final destination.
Amenities
The Durango - La Plata County Airport is located just 15 miles from downtown Durango. On site, there are rental car desks for Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, and Hertz. The Durango Deli has two locations, one pre-security and one post-security offering a wide variety of items including grab-and-go as well as a bar in the departure lounge. La Plata Gifts is a local gift store with plenty of Colorado novelties to choose from. The views from the airport are stunning and offer a beautiful “Welcome to Durango” or “Welcome Home”.
Statistics
In 2021, the DRO airport set records with 199,677 enplanements and 197,616 deplanements for a total of 397,295 passengers. 2022 saw a slight decrease in activity to 366,997 passengers. DRO not only provides easy travel access for locals, it also increases tourism traffic which in turn contributes $293 million annually to the regional economy.
Other Local Airports
Animas Air Park, also located in Durango, is a privately owned, public airport for smaller, non-commercial flights. Montrose Regional Airport is about two and a half hours away and offers services from United, American Airlines, Delta, and Southwest. The Cortez Municipal Airport and Telluride Airport hosts Denver Air Connection for nonstop flights to DIA and Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl. Airport. Farmington, NM also has an airport mainly serving aircraft rescue and firefighting fleet, and private flights; there are no daily commercial flights offered. Pagosa Springs, CO also has an airport for private aviation.
