Summer has arrived with warmer weather and longer days! The Durango community event calendar is full of activities ranging from comedy nights and live music performances to the farmers market and train rides. Below are a few can’t miss events in June 2024!
Animas River Days
A summer familiar favorite, Animas River Days starts Thursday, May 30th with events through Sunday, June 2nd. Putting the spotlight on the Animas River, rafters, kayakers, paddle boarders, and other river rats (Durango slang for people who love to spend time on or by the river) will enjoy the entering or watching the competitions. Live music, vendors, and more fun will be held at Santa Rita Park ,home of the white water rapids. Don’t miss the floatie rodeo and river parade that take on a more humorous side of river activities!
Steamworks Half Marathon
On Saturday, June 8th, you can test your endurance during the Steamworks Half Marathon. The 13.1 mile course winds down County Road 250 with the finish line at Durango Fitness Club. At the finish line, Steamworks and HomeSlice will be throwing a fun poolside party! It’s sure to be a beautiful morning run in between the Animas River and the red cliffs of Missionary Ridge. Although this year’s event is sold out, you can join the waitlist and be sure to sign up early next year.
Durango PlayFest
The Durango PlayFest empowers playwrights in Southwest Colorado and offers education and employment opportunities. Working with professional actors and directors, they create a collaborative environment for those interested in the industry. On June 25th, they will be hosting their 6th Annual Durango PlayFest celebration of live theater. The board and staff along with other actors, directors, and playwrights will join together at Rochester Hotel Secret Garden from 6 - 8 pm to mingle and talk about the year’s featured plays.
