November is when the holiday season officially begins - Halloween has just passed, Thanksgiving is on the way, and Christmas is right around the corner. Even as the weather cools, there are still plenty of community events to enjoy in Durango and the surrounding area. Below are three can’t-miss November happenings, and if you don’t find something of interest, there are lots of other options!
Friends of the Library Book Sales
Friends of the Library (FOL), the non-profit that helps fund Durango Public Library programs, is hosting its November book sale on November 7th & 8th. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. (FOL members get early access at 9:30 a.m.) for great deals on gently used books, DVDs, audiobooks, and more. Proceeds directly support the library and the services they provide to our community.
Ska/Venture Season Kickoff Party
Ska Brewing and Venture Snowboards are celebrating their 21st annual kick-off party collab on November 8th at 6:00 p.m. Both brands are proudly local - Ska from Durango and Venture from Silverton - but are nationally recognized for their craft. The party includes prizes, a snowboard giveaway, food, beer, and live music by the Warsaw Poland Bros. There is no cover charge, and event proceeds help support the Silverton Avalanche School.
Singing with Santa
Christmas in Durango kicks off the day after Thanksgiving with the beloved Singing with Santa tradition. On November 28th, caroling begins at 5:30 p.m. in Buckley Park, accompanied by free hot chocolate, cookies, and photos with Santa. There is also a Holly Jolly Gift Card Drawing and a Reindeer Scavenger Hunt highlighting local shops in downtown Durango.
