Fall has officially begun and is noticeable in the shorter days, cooler weather, and leaves just beginning to change color. Durango and Southwest Colorado have many great events this October including many live bands, walking tours, and more.
Durango Cowboy Gathering
The heritage and spirit of the American West revisits Durango from October 2 - 6 during the Durango Cowboy Gathering. For 36 years, time-honored traditions such as music, storytelling, poetry, and horse-centric events will be available for the public to enjoy at many downtown venues. Performances by the Bar D Wranglers, Kristyn Harris & Hailey Sandoz, Outlaw Bohdi Linde & The Ramblin’ Rangers, and more start the festivities. Saturday is packed full of things to do starting with a chuckwagon breakfast, horseback social, petting coral, and a wild west shootout (staged of course). There will also be a cowboy parade, Grand Marshal presentation, and many more musical and poetry performances throughout the weekend.
Apple Days Festival
This year marks the 16th annual Apple Days Festival, a day where apples take center stage with apple cider pressing, pie-eating contests, and tasty apple treats galore. This year, the festival will be held at the Durango Farmers Market from 9 am - 1 pm, Saturday, October 12. Hosted by the Good Food Collective, they put agricultural sustainability first while addressing the food security and health equity in the region through partnerships and events like this.
Fire Prevention Day - Smoke Alarms - Make Them Work For You
Hosted by the Durango Fire Protection District, this free event at Durango Fire & Rescue Station 1 in Bodo Industrial Park offers education on smoke alarms and other fire safety in the home. Hot dogs, ice cream, Sparky (the fire dog), fire engine demonstrations, and more will be available! Open to the public from 9 am - 1 pm on October 12, this is a great community resource!
