The cooler fall weather won’t hinder community events in Durango and the surrounding area this September. Enjoy a variety of live music performances, art classes, and more fun activities. Below are a few stand-out events in September 2025.
4-H Night at the Bar D Chuckwagon
A perfect western heritage collaboration: support La Plata County 4-H while enjoying an evening at the Bar D Chuckwagon. Ticket sale proceeds benefit the continuation of the 4-H youth development programs in La Plata County and include a chuckwagon supper and show on September 12th. This special event will also feature a steak auction as well as the Bar D’s regular shops for locally made good and fun memorabilia.
Durango Autumn Arts Festival
Celebrate handcrafted talent during this picturesque event set along E 2nd Avenue September 20th & 21st. The 31st Annual Autumn Arts Festival will showcase arts & crafts from local artists and the top artisans from across the country. This year, the judged show will also include a young artists section with ten booths specifically hosting up and coming young artists. Hosted by the Durango Arts Center, this culmination of artists only adds to Durango’s existing art scene!
Intro to Archaeology
The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society is hosting an Intro to Archaeology on September 30th. This unique opportunity to start learning about archeology will be hosted at the Durango Public Library and will include demonstrations of paleo technology such as twine making, projectile points, and fire starting. The greater Southwest Colorado area also has a plethora of publicly accessible sites to explore and continue your archeological exploration.
