Colorado Rockies

Colorado Rockies

Baseball is a classic American sport stemming back to the 1800s. The Colorado Rockies, Colorado’s home team based in Denver, CO and representing the state in the National League, bears the iconic purple and white colors.

Colorado Rockies History

The Major League Baseball (MLB) organization was founded in 1903 when the National League (NL) and American League (AL) joined together. Their inception in 1993, the Colorado Rockies have been a steady expansion team in the NL West as one of five teams, one of 16 in the NL. They are aptly named after the Rocky Mountains that set the backdrop to the home baseball diamond which is also reflected in the purple on their jerseys - as in “For purple mountain majesties” in “America the Beautiful”.

Over the years, they have gained traction with names including Matt Holliday, outfielder; Todd Helton, first baseman; Brian Fuentes, pitcher; Andres Galarraga, first baseman; Vinny Castilla, third baseman; Larry Walker, outfielder; and Dante Bichette, outfielder. The Rockies have appeared in the World Series playoffs five times, although have never won the title.

Coors Field

The Rockies’ home stadium, Coors Field, is just as iconic as the team themselves. Located in downtown Denver, after nearly three years of construction, it hosted its inaugural game on April 26, 1995, one mile above sea level. This ballpark was the second NL baseball-only stadium after Dodger Stadium. Seating just over 50,000 fans, this is a gorgeous setting to watch a baseball game. Coors Field is also a popular music venue in the area alongside Red Rocks, Summit Music Hall, and Ball Arena to name a few.

2024 Colorado Rockies Schedule

The 2024 regular season is nearly over, with just six more series left. The Colorado Rockies are currently rated 18th in the MLB for hitting and 30th for pitching. Although last in pitching, they rank 9th in the NL with 157 home runs in 144 games.
