Durango, Colorado is a popular four-season destination nestled in Southwest Colorado. Its historic downtown, combined with river valleys, rugged peaks, and high-desert landscapes, provide many wonderful things to do and see throughout the year. From annual events to relaxing river and lake days, some may choose to continue their outdoor activities by setting up camp; however, if you visit in the colder months or want a more city-like adventure, there are plenty of hotels to choose from.
The Strater Hotel
Dating back to Durango’s establishment in 1887, The Historic Strater Hotel was the first hotel built here and is the longest running - still welcoming guests today. The three-story, red brick building on Main Street offers 88 unique guestrooms with classic Victorian-style decor. On-site, you’ll find the Office Spiritorium, Mahogany Grille, and Diamond Belle Saloon (complete with a lively ragtime piano and costumed servers). These amenities, along with the ornate lobby, welcome both guests and non-guests to step into the past and learn about the area’s rich history.
The General Palmer Hotel
Located on Main Street, on the same block as the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, The General Palmer Hotel dates back to 1898. It transports visitors back in time, while also offering modern comforts. Between the Main Hotel and Palace Wing, the 39 luxury rooms each provide a distinctive stay. Complimentary continental breakfast, private parking, and easy access to Durango’s many restaurants and shops add extra convenience.
Rochester Hotel
Just a block off of Main Ave on E. 2nd Avenue, the Rochester Hotel was originally built in 1882 and later renovated into 15 stylish, modern-chic rooms. Each room comes with specially curated touches and minimalistic decor for a refined yet cozy Durango stay. The Peeples Bar - a homage to the original hotel name - offers an on-site setting for guests and other visitors to relax and enjoy a specialty cocktail. In the warmer months, The Garden becomes a magical outdoor area, perfect for a beverage or listening to live music.
The LeLand House
Also on E. 2nd Avenue, the LeLand House provides 12 luxurious suites updated with private kitchens and kitchenettes for an apartment-style stay. Its historic 1927 charm is thoughtfully balanced with contemporary decor and premium amenities - ideal for an extended reservation. Just next door, Lola’s Place is a great spot for coffee, lunch, or dinner.
Nobody’s Inn
Nestled in the 9th block on Main Avenue, Nobody’s Inn offers a unique hotel experience with no concierge, room service, or daily cleaning service for a self-sufficient stay. Each of the five rooms are equipped with cozy living areas, kitchens, and private baths. They’re aptly named Somebody, Anybody, Everybody, Homebody, and Busybody (plus A Whole Bunch of Bodies - a combination of Anybody and Everybody). Although there is no one on-site, all of historic downtown is just outside the front door, making this a live-like-a-local experience.
The Caboose Motel
The Caboose Motel is on North Main Avenue and offers a warm and inviting place to stay. Their Southwestern mountain-inspired decor pairs with conveniences like kitchenettes, private entrances, and easy proximity to Durango’s restaurants, shopping, and more.
Siesta Motel
The Siesta Motel combines vintage charm with modern touches. Guests enjoy comfortable, upscale retro decor in this single-story roadside gem. The Cactus Club offers an on-site common lounge, in addition to the outside yard/grill area and complimentary bike rentals for guests to explore town. Their North Main location is an ideal basecamp for any Southwest Colorado adventure.
Adventure Inn Durango
Clean, convenient, and comfortable are the pillars of the Adventure Inn. The updated mountain-modern rooms are simple, practical, and well-designed. The lobby hosts a spacious common lounge, private hot tub patio, and outdoor fireplace. Also on North Main Street, you have easy access to Durango and the surrounding area’s activities.
Beyond these Durango namesakes, there are a variety of brand-name hotels to choose from, including the Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, DoubleTree, BestWestern, LaQuinta Inn, Fairfield, and more. You can also try a bed & breakfast, vacation rental, or hotel room at Purgatory Resort for a more curated or private experience.
