Happy New Year! We’re already a week into 2025 and Southwest Colorado is buzzing with events. Below are a few of the “can’t-miss” things to do this month in Durango, CO.
Christmas Tree Drop Off
The City of Durango hosts a Christmas Tree Drop Off site at Santa Rita Park during the month of January. All natural trees with decorations removed, including ornaments, lights, and tinsel, can be dropped off at the designated spot in the park. The trees will be turned into mulch, which will be made available to the public in the spring.
Crafternoons: Journal Making
Hosted by the Durango Public Library, Crafternoons is an ongoing monthly series that brings adults (17+) together to explore their creative side. On the second Thursday of the month, from 4 - 5:30 pm, there’s a new mini-project to enjoy. This month, the library will provide supplies and instruction for creating a New Year’s Journal. Of course, you can transform the project into whatever your heart desires using the materials provided. Crafting is a great way to have fun, relax, and boost mental health. Oh, and did we mention it’s free?!
Snowdown
Snowdown is Durango’s annual cabin-fever-reliever, bringing a week of community events and fun to the streets of Durango. This year’s theme: Board Games! Kicking off January 24th and running through February 2nd, there are many familiar favorites such as Snowdown Follies, Fashion Do’s & Dont’s, Chili Cookoff & Bloody Mary Contest, and the Light Parade, as well as new theme-oriented events. Pop-up events include: spoons, card games, costume contests, darts, and many more where winners receive bragging rights and fun prizes!
