The leaves are changing and the air may be cooler, but that doesn’t mean that the community events are coming to an end. There are plenty of fun performances, markets, and other activities happening this October. Read about a few top picks below.
The Chili Chase
Hosted by Backcountry Experience, one of Durango’s outdoor gear stores, the Chili Chase combines a spicy 8-mile trail run with an even spicier chili cookoff. On October 4th, the race begins at 10:00 a.m., taking runners through Overend Park and ends in the Backcountry parking lot where local chefs will be competing in a different competition. While runners get to taste for free, the public is also invited to join and vote on the best chili starting at 11:00 a.m. This event benefits Durango Trails, one of our local nonprofits dedicated to making the area an amazing place to call home.
Western Slope Startup Week
Part of the nonprofit Startup Colorado, Western Slope Startup Week (WSSW) offers five days of conferences, workshops, and networking opportunities that empower local entrepreneurs in many ways. Ten different tracks (people, money, communications, tech, climate, and more) include around 100 different experts, from local companies to the Colorado State Treasurer. WSSW tickets for October 6th - 10th are available to the public for free and you can register here.
Durango Nursery & Supply, Inc. Fall Fest
October 11th is not only a great day to stock up on your landscaping needs from Durango Nursery & Supply, Inc., but also attend their family-friendly fall fest. From 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., there will be activities, contests, arts & crafts, and more to enjoy at their location just south of Durango. Hayrides and a pumpkin patch make this the perfect “welcome to fall” event. Open to the public, they will be offering many end of season sales as well.
