September may be the end of summer, but it’s not the end of fun community events! The Farmers Market, live music, and more continue throughout the month of September plus tons more to choose from. Below are some can’t-miss events next month in Durango.
Buck Wild Durango
Buck Wild Durango is a true Country Swing based dance group that hosts classes, socials, and parties to bring people together over the thrill of dancing. Every first Monday of the month begins another three week lesson. The last Monday is dedicated to line dancing at The Durango Collective, a community space available for both private and public events. With no experience or boots required, this is an amazing way to try something new, meet friends, and enjoy a fun hobby.
2026 Lake Nighthorse Triathlon
The Lake Nighthorse Triathlon takes place on September 12th featuring a swim, bike, and running course. The Sprint race format challenges athletes to a 750 meter swim in Lake Nighthorse, 12.4 mile bike course along County Road 210 and 141, and a 3 mile run along the “Dam Road”. Competitors in the Olympic format will complete double the distance in each leg. There are individual sprint, individual olympic, sprint - relay male, sprint - relay female, and sprint - relay coed events. As a USA Triathlon sanctioned event, safety and insurance are met a high standard while racers are included in national ranking for further race opportunities.
San Juan Songwriters Festival
A local Southwest Colorado extension of the “Nashville Songs & Stories,” the San Juan Songwriters Festival brings together top songwriters from Nashville and our region to multiple venues for an intimate experience. Enjoy storytelling, performances, and immersive connections throughout downtown Durango and at Harley Davidson September 24 - 27. Headliners include Rivers Rutherford, Matraca Berg, Kara DioGuardi, and Marti Frederiksen who have written for the likes of Aerosmith, Ozzie Osborn, Pink, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Trisha Yearwood, Deana Carter, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, and Brad Paisley.
